EXPERIENCE

• Developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals for various Navy guns to military specifications.
• Creating programs and style sheets to process XML/SGML content and produce data extracts to create acronym lists, reference designator and part number indexes.
• Developed MS Access database to track our illustrations and graphics.
• Supporting BAE’s S1000D projects and the Sea Working Group for S1000D.
• Providing tools support and technical direction for the publishing and training departments.

• Developed XUI panels and associated JavaScript/ACL to support a comment manager in Arbortext.
• Provided a review of the DTD and general approach for customization of Arbortext to support interactive learning content development.

• Implemented an automated DITA publishing process based upon Arbortext and the DITA Open Toolkit v1.4.1. This included:
  • Building an ant process to run these builds.
  • Modifying the XSLT and XSL-FO style sheets to support the BEA eDocs look and feel requirements for HTML and PDF generation.
  • Provided insights into the processing methodology and how the tagging triggered various results.
  • Creating a Java program to flatten the hierarchy before processing with the OT.
  • Successfully published a complete set of documentation via this process.
• Supporting the current documentation build process and distribution to the BEA website. This is a 7x24 operation that runs on 12 machines and builds over 2,500 different books.
  • Managing Ant scripts and Perforce source control system to run conversions on Frame files to convert them to PDF and HTML.
  • Builds are run on VMware virtual machines.
  • I have patched and improved the existing documentation build to stabilize it and document the process. Instead of failing on a daily basis (multiple times) it now has one or two issues a month.

  • Creating messages based upon the ACORD P&C v2 standard for use as the canonical model for internal applications
  • Maintaining Fireman's Fund schema and extensions to ACORD.
  • Providing ACORD modeling guidance and expertise in applying the standard.

• Client: General Dynamics Information Technology, San Diego, CA
  Job title: XML/XSL Programmer Aug - Sept 2006
  • Created a schema for a MILSPEC manual based upon the content of the Word documents provided.
  • Created XSL/XSL-FO style sheets to produce the manual in HTML and PDF form.

• Hired as a consultant on Arbortext products and XML applications to do work for various clients, this work could include:
  • DTD development or customization
  • Schema development and customization
  • Stylesheet development in FOSI, XSL/XSLT

• Developed SGML based publishing strategy incorporating ArborText, Datalogics, Exoterica and Electronic Book Technologies products.

• Project lead for SGML integration efforts using perl, awk, tcl/tk, and OmniMark.

• Lead on project to implement online information management and retrieval tools and procedures to support them. This is a combination of Interleaf WorldView and Fulcrum APIs to produce a custom application for Sybase worldwide to access technical publications in FrameMaker and other sources.
• Developed software application to manage document control (ISO 9000) and workflow in support of the EIM project. This includes: versioning, authoring, sign-off, document conversion, SGML, and distribution.
• Designed, developed, and installed applications built with Sybase, APT, Report Workbench, SQR, awk, and UNIX C-shell, in a Sun UNIX environment under SCCS control, in support of the global operations of Sybase Technical Support consisting of 250 users and five sites worldwide.

• Developed programs in C, SQL, awk, UNIX C-shell in a UNIX environment.
• Worked with cross-functional teams to implement solutions at the division level, which included developing methods for creating English/Spanish work instructions, and part and identification charts with images.
• Designed, developed, programmed and administer an Apollo Oracle relational database system used to create IPB parts lists in military specification format.
• Created SQL*Forms (2.3 and 3.0) interface for parts listing system data entry and query. Pro*C and C programs retrieve a range of information, sorting and interpreting the data then marking it with Interleaf codes to produce a finished publication.
• Developed expertise in SGML and presented CALS/SGML requirements to various vendors and internal management personnel.
• Supported and maintained an Apollo, IBM PC, and Macintosh environment running applications like: Auto-trol Tech Illustrator, Interleaf Publishing software, and various Macintosh and IBM PC applications .
• Evaluated and implemented new systems, hardware, software, and procedures. Troubleshot, determined user needs, and provided solutions while ensuring (internal) customer satisfaction with those systems.

• Wrote User Guide for the PranceGT PC Board Design CAD System while supporting the documentation group's PCs with WordPerfect 5.1, Ventura Publisher, and AutoCAD.

• Developed programs in PASCAL, PL/I , and DCL in a VAX, Apollo and IBM PC environment to enhance the design process.
• Provided end user support on, Bravo!, CASE and Mentor CAD/CAM systems. Users included engineers, designers, draftsmen, and illustrators. Developed procedures for the use of CAD in solids, mechanical, and electronic design. This included training, programming and providing work-arounds.
